The reason

On 6 May 2026, Bose pulled the plug on the SoundTouch cloud.

The official SoundTouch app leaned on Bose servers. When they went dark, the presets, music-service browsing and TuneIn internet radio vanished — even on your speaker's physical buttons. The speaker itself isn't broken; only the cloud around it is gone.

Mast takes over that role locally. Everything the app does happens between your phone and your speaker on your own network. There is nothing left for a company to ever switch off.

Honest about the internet: control is fully local, but the radio stations themselves stream from the internet — that is what internet radio is. Searching for stations uses the public radio-browser.info service. The difference from before: no middleman logging what you play, and no account.

Getting started

Playing in three steps.

Give your speaker a fixed IP address

Log in to your router, find the speaker in the list of connected devices and reserve a fixed IP (a DHCP reservation on its MAC address).

Why first? Without a fixed address, your speaker can get a different IP after a reboot and the app loses it. Five minutes now saves hassle later.

Install the app and find your speaker

Open Mast, tap “Find speakers” and pick your device. If the app finds nothing, enter the fixed IP from step 1 by hand.

On iPhone: the first time, iOS asks for local network access — tap Allow, or the app can't see your speaker. You can enable it later under Settings → Mast → Local Network.

Play

Recall a preset or search for a station. The speaker fetches the stream itself — your phone can then lock or leave the network.

Phone and speaker must be on the same wifi network (not a guest network).

App can't find your speaker?

  • Are the phone and speaker on the same wifi network (not guest wifi)?
  • On iPhone: is the local-network permission on?
  • Is “client / AP isolation” off on your router? It stops devices from seeing each other.
  • Is a VPN active on your phone? Turn it off for a moment.
  • Is the speaker on and not in standby?
  • Still nothing? Enter the IP address by hand — that needs no permission.

This list is up front on purpose: knowing what the app does beforehand means no surprises. Mast is an independent product and depends on hardware, firmware and interfaces controlled by Bose that can change without notice.

Frequently asked

Does this still work now that Bose has shut down the cloud?
Yes — that's the whole point. Mast talks straight to your speaker on your own network and needs no Bose server at all. As long as your wifi and speaker work, Mast works.
Do I need an account or internet?
No account. Controlling your speaker needs no internet, only your local wifi. Internet is only needed to receive the radio streams themselves and to search stations via radio-browser.info.
Are my old presets restored?
Mast recalls the presets stored on the speaker itself. You set presets on the device: hold a physical button 1–6 while something playable is playing. In the app the buttons are deliberately recall-only.
Do you collect my data?
No. There is no account, no analytics and no server of ours. Your settings stay on your phone. What the app does send out is transparent: your search term goes to radio-browser.info and the radio streams come from the stations themselves. Details are in the privacy statement.
